Up Next: Student Reading Makes Cents

What: CVES PTSA Read-A-Thon

When: February 29 - March 13

Fundraising Goal: $25,000 (or $40/student)

We will be using Read-A-Thon.com. With the online tools provided, readers and families can tell friends and family about the program and ask those people to support the reader by making a small donation. Donors can leave encouraging messages. There are no pledges based on units. Instead, it is a simple one-time donation which can be submitted online using credit or debit cards, electronic checks and PayPal. Readers earn a percentage of what they raise and this can be spent in the Read-A-Thon.com online store.

Students will watch a kick-off video the week before our Read-A-Thon and bring home ‘Reader’ sheets. These sheets include instructions for your readers to build their personal page. Each sheet is unique to a specific reader with a code. Readers will get a FREE prize when they build their page! Reading sessions will be held in class during those two weeks and students can also use the site’s session timer to track individually. We are excited to begin!

Important! Ahoy, Volunteer Opportunities Ahead!

If you can help at any of these upcoming PTSA events at school, please sign up here. Volunteering is a terrific way to give back to the community and get to know other parents. Thank you in advance!

  • The school Spelling Bee is Tuesday, Feb. 23, and volunteers are needed that evening for multiple tasks. It's a suspenseful competition, and highly exciting to attend! There will also be two lunchtime rounds earlier in the month, and many volunteers will be needed then as well. If you are available, please sign up! Thank you!

Nominate a Volunteer for Special Award

A Golden Acorn Award is presented by a PTA local unit or council to a school or community volunteer in recognition of their dedication and service to children and youth. Since the beginning of this program, more than 47,000 Golden Acorns have been presented to volunteers throughout Washington State. If you have a hardworking person you would like to nominate, please email president@cvesptsa.org by April 1 and describe why your nominee deserves the honor. Winners will receive a special certificate and pin.

Share Your Photos in the Yearbook!
Attention parents, teachers and photographers! The Shutterfly site for Cascade View is up and ready to receive your photos for submission to the school yearbook: www.cascadeviewelementary.shutterfly.com

There, please upload your photos from school events -- First Day of School, Walkathon, etc. -- or activities from inside your child's classroom. If you have any questions, or have a large amount of photos that would require a Dropbox link, contact Yearbook Chairwoman Jeannine Martindale at JeannineMartindale@gmail.com.
